Reps. Roby and DeSantis honored as LSCU Federal Lawmakers of the Year
Reps. Roby and DeSantis have been longtime supporters of credit unions -Roby was recently honored in D.C. and DeSantis will soon be honored in his district
TALLAHASSEE, FL (April 9, 2018) — The League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates (LSCU) honored Reps. Martha Roby (R-AL) and Ron DeSantis (R-FL) as their 2017 Federal Lawmakers of the Year. Rep. Roby was honored by the LSCU in February as part of the Credit Union National Association’s Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C. and Rep. DeSantis will soon be honored in his district.
“Reps. Roby and DeSantis have shown that they are willing to support legislation that will reduce regulatory burdens for credit unions,” said LSCU & Affiliates President/CEO Patrick La Pine. “They understand that these barriers mandate that credit unions focus more on compliance and less time on serving their membership. We thank Reps. Roby and DeSantis for providing support for local financial institutions.”
Roby currently represents District 2 and serves on the House Armed Services, Education and the Workforce, and Rules Committees. During 2017, Roby supported and voted in favor of H.R. The Financial Choice Act, supported and voted in favor of H.J. Res. 111, Congressional disapproval of the CFPB Arbitration Rule, and supported an amendment to H.R. 3354, preserving the NCUA’s independence from the Congressional appropriations process.
DeSantis has proven to be a strong supporter of credit unions and has been extremely accessible this past year to hear credit union concerns. He has supported the credit union tax exemption, supported and voted in favor of H.J. Res. 111, Congressional disapproval of the CFPB Arbitration Rule, and was the co-author of a “Dear Colleague” letter to the Department of Justice asking for clarification on application of ADA to websites, after a request from the LSCU.
The LSCU presents federal and state Lawmaker of the Year awards to show appreciation and support for legislators that listen to the issues, co-sponsor legislation, and vote in support of the credit union movement.
