RTN GoodWorks Foundation provides financial literacy for youth

Local youth enjoyed free financial seminars held on August 7 at the Waltham Boys & Girls Club, and August 8 at Brandeis University sponsored by RTN GoodWorks Foundation and RTN Federal Credit Union, in partnership with Waltham Partnership for Youth (WPY).

RTN presented “Make the Most of Your Money” to two group of high school students participating in WPY’s summer internship program. The interactive seminars covered a wide range of financial concepts and information, and provided students an opportunity to ask questions, and share their thoughts on saving and spending money.

"Our partnership with RTN provides valuable educational information about managing finances,” says Kaytie Dowcett, Executive Director Waltham Partnership for Youth. “The students in our internship program want to know more about money in general, as well as practical knowledge such as what taxes are taken from your paycheck. The financial skills RTN is imparting to our young people will help them take charge of their financial futures."

This summer, RTN was also one of the participating credit union partners of the 5th annual Cooperative Credit Union Association, Inc.’s (CCUA) Reality Fair program known as “Scholars and Cents” at the Massachusetts State House on August 1. Nearly 70 high school, college and graduate student interns participated in this credit union-founded financial education program designed by credit unions. This interactive event helps young people understand real life financial issues by assigning them occupations and salaries so they can figure out how to create spending and savings plans. Other credit union partners were City of Boston Credit Union, Eastern Corporate Federal Credit Union, and Metro Credit Union.
