San Diego State University and Navy to meet at Qualcomm® Stadium on Dec. 23; Katriz Trinidad to sing National Anthem

SAN DIEGO, CA (December 10, 2014) — San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, is marking its 10th year of title sponsorship for the 10th annual San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl.

SDCCU has served as title sponsor of the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl since the bowl game’s inception in 2005. The San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl is the only college football bowl game among America’s 39 college football bowl games to have a credit union as a title sponsor.

Kickoff for the 2014 game is at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 23 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. The game will be broadcasted live before a nationwide audience on ESPN-TV and ESPN-Radio.

The bowl game will match the U.S. Naval Academy Midshipmen (6-5) against the San Diego State University Aztecs (7-5) from the Mountain West Conference. The same two teams previously met in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl in 2010, when the Aztecs dominated Navy 35-10.

The bowl game will be Navy’s 11th bowl appearance in the last 12 years, as well as the Mids’ fifth trip to San Diego for a bowl game and the team’s fourth trip to the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. The Aztecs will play in their fifth consecutive bowl game under head coach Rocky Long.

“San Diego State University and Navy are an ideal matchup to help celebrate the 10th anniversary San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. With Navy’s presence in our community, it’s like having two hometown teams meet for an exciting game,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Halleck. “And to keep with the hometown theme, we are also looking forward to an outstanding performance of the National Anthem by a local up-and-coming star.”

Katriz Trinidad, the 16-year-old from Chula Vista who starred on The Voice this past season, is scheduled to sing the National Anthem at the 10th anniversary game. All three judges were blown away by the teen’s performance during the blind auditions of The Voice U.S. Season 7. Ultimately, following a standing ovation from Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton and Pharrell Williams, Trinidad joined Team Pharrell, the artist and producer behind the hit song “Happy.”

Tickets for the 2014 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl range from $45 to $80 and can be purchased through the bowl’s ticket office at Qualcomm Stadium, Gate A, or by calling (619) 285-5039. Over the past nine years, about $400,000 has been generated for Make-A-Wish from ticket sales from the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl.
