Second annual popular vote-based PSECU gives back community donation campaign opens tomorrow

HARRISBURG, PA (April 30, 2018)Tomorrow, PSECU will launch its second annual PSECU Gives Back campaign through which individuals vote to determine which one of four nonprofit organizations will receive popular vote-based financial support from Pennsylvania’s largest credit union. This year, the organization with the most votes will receive a $2,200 donation.

“At PSECU, we know that giving back to community organizations can truly bring positive changes to places where we live, work, and play. That commitment to community is a crucial part of who we are and also part of the overall credit union ‘people helping people’ philosophy,” said PSECU President Greg Smith. “PSECU believes that as a member-owned financial cooperative, it is our duty to support the causes most important to the people we serve. That’s why again this year, we’re reaching out to the public for their input on how – through this campaign – we can best support the communities we all share.”

PSECU’s members and non-members alike are encouraged to visit the PSECU Facebook page to cast a vote for one of the outstanding community organizations listed below. The one with the most votes as of May 31, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. (ET) will be named the winner.

  • Alzheimer’s Association: The Alzheimer’s Association works to provide care and support for all those affected by all forms of dementias with their 24/7 helpline, educational programs, support groups, message boards, care consultation, online caregiver tools, and referrals to local resources. Their vision is a world without Alzheimer’s, and they work to eliminate Alzheimer’s through the advancement of research, to provide and enhance care and support to all affected, and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
  • Children’s Miracle Network: To provide the best care for kids, children’s hospitals rely on donations and community support, as Medicaid and insurance programs do not fully cover the cost of care. Since 1983, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals has helped fill those funding gaps by raising more than $5 billion. Its various fundraising partners and programs support the nonprofit’s mission to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible.
  • Feeding Pennsylvania: Feeding Pennsylvania is the state association of Feeding America food banks and their mission is to increase food and funds for their members and provide a strong, collective voice for hunger relief in Pennsylvania through a variety of channels, including programming and advocacy.
  • Pennsylvania Envirothon: Envirothon combines in-class curriculum and outdoor training, helping students to learn more about Aquatic Ecology, Forestry, Soil & Land Use, Wildlife, and Current Environmental Issues, providing future generations with the ability to be better equipped to address the complex natural resource concerns facing today’s world as well as the challenges of tomorrow.

The winning contribution presented by PSECU was increased to $2,200 for 2018 from $500 the year prior. The amount was selected to not only increase the funding provided to the top organization selected by popular vote, but also as a nod to the credit union’s 22 founders.

“More than 80 years ago, our 22 founders started the credit union with the objective of helping others through shared financial opportunity. Today, in all we do, we strive to follow that community betterment-based legacy,” explained Barb Bowker, Vice President of Marketing and Membership Development for PSECU. “We encourage people to share this contest with friends, family, and colleagues. PSECU is proud to continue supporting our communities – and now the choice is yours!”

PSECU Gives Back is just one component of PSECU’s ongoing, year-round commitment to community support though charitable sponsorships and corporate donations, financial education programming and resources, and employee volunteerism supported by the credit union’s more than 850 employees.
