Security Service Charitable Foundation donates $2,500 to the Texas Diaper Bank

Supplying hygienic products to mothers and babies in need

SAN ANTONIO, TX (April 19, 2022) — The Security Service Charitable Foundation is helping to support local mothers and children by donating $2,500 to the Texas Diaper Bank (TDB). The donation will provide 12,500 diapers to over 500 South Texas families, helping to close the “diaper gap” experienced by low-income individuals.

“The diaper gap is the lack of access to an adequate supply of diapers and other healthcare products,” said Jorge Medina, executive director for Texas Diaper Bank. “The Texas Diaper Bank is the only diaper bank of its kind in South Texas, providing this valuable necessity for many families in need.”

In 2020, TDB served approximately 75,000 individuals in Bexar County and nine surrounding areas. In 2021, TDP added special outreach services in response to Winter Storm Uri, dispersing 128,000 diapers, 1,750 winter coats and 600 hygiene kits to over 12,450 individuals.

“The costs of providing for a family are increasing and purchasing diapers can become an added financial burden to those already struggling,” said Brandy Ralston-Lint, senior vice president of corporate communications for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “Helping families keep their babies healthy with clean diapers is a privilege and we gladly support the Texas Diaper Bank’s efforts to serve our South Texas community.”

Founded in 1997, the Texas Diaper Bank initially began as the Hispanic Religious Partnership for Community. Comprised of 10 San Antonio United Methodist churches, the organization sought to provide outreach programs for the community’s under-served. In 2010, the organization refocused its mission statement, and changed its name to the Texas Diaper Bank in response to the consistent and prevalent demand for this basic need.

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union’s market areas.
