On August 9 th , 2019, Senator Chris Coons took time to visit Dover Federal Credit Union. This visit consisted of the Senator and staff meeting with the management team of the credit union, while also touring the building to meet more employees working out of this location. During his meeting with the management team, Senator Coons discussed current legislative issues facing the credit union industry but also took time to formally recognize Dover Federal for their work during the most recent government shutdown.
The Government Shutdown began on December 22 nd , 2018, and came to an end on January 25 th , 2019, making it the longest shutdown on record. During the shutdown, Dover Federal Credit Union created a Shutdown Assistance Loan to help those directly affected by the potential financial hardship they were facing. This loan made qualifying members eligible to receive up to 75% of their paycheck for each of their scheduled pay periods. Dover Federal members who needed to utilize this loan were given a 0% interest rate while the shutdown was in effect, as well as for the two months following its conclusion.
