Sound Credit Union and UW Tacoma to host HuskyHack hackathon to spark financial innovation

TACOMA, WA (September 30, 2025) |

Sound Credit Union (Sound) and the Milgard Center for Business Analytics  at the University of Washington Tacoma (UWT) are excited to announce the launch of  HuskyHack, a 24-hour hackathon that will challenge college students from across

Washington State to design innovative digital tools that empower people to take control of  their finances.

The competition kicks off at 9am on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Milgard Hall on the UWT campus. Student teams will be presented with a real-world financial challenge and tasked  with creating a digital solution—ranging from mobile apps to online services—that

empowers consumers to better manage their finances.

Participants may enter the hackathon individually or in teams of 2–5 students. They will  design and develop their ideas using platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft  Azure, and other digital tools—gaining hands-on experience in innovation, problem-solving,  and entrepreneurship while networking with industry professionals and community leaders.

“Sound Credit Union is committed to connecting people with the financial tools and  resources that help them to manage their finances confidently,” said Jennifer Reed, Vice  President of Public Relations at Sound. “Our partnership with UWT provides an opportunity  for entrepreneurs to channel their creativity into developing a tool that we hope will benefit  our members and the community at large.

A panel of industry experts and technology leaders will judge the competition and select the  top projects. The winning team will receive $15,000 in prize money and 6-month

membership to CoMotion Labs in Seattle.
