SPC’s Latest Video Supports Don’t Tax My Credit Union Movement

HARTSVILLE, SC (July 15, 2013) — SPC Credit Union’s recent video comes at a vital time for credit unions across the nation.

The video “People Helping People” highlights Travis Walters, Chairman of SPC’s Board of Directors. Travis details how the nature of credit unions is fundamentally different from banks. The reasons include unpaid directors and helping people who cannot find financial assistance elsewhere. He states, “I believe that credit unions truly touch and change the lives of people.”

This video arrives at a time when Congress is considering imposing a federal tax on credit unions, a tax credit unions have never paid due to our non-profit status. A nationwide movement, Don’t Tax My Credit Union, seeks to mobilize 98 million credit union members to contact Congress and fight the possible tax.

This video is part of SPC’s My Story video series, an unscripted look at the difference SPC makes to its members. The series recently won a national Golden Mirror Award from CUES, the Credit Union Executive Society.
