State’s top credit union professional award given to York resident

HARRISBURG, PA (May 18, 2015) — The Pennsylvania Credit Union Association (PCUA) awarded Dennis Flickinger of York, President and CEO of First Capital Federal Credit Union, headquartered in York with the William W. Pratt Lifetime Achievement Award for the 2015 Credit Union Professional of the Year. The award was presented during the gala banquet at the PCUA 81st Annual Convention & Exposition on May 16 in Hershey, PA.

Flickinger began his career as a Supervisory Committee volunteer for the Fort Eustis FCU, Virginia, in 1976. Following his retirement from the U.S. Army, he became President/CEO of First Capital FCU in January 1990.

For the past 25 years, he has assumed numerous leadership positions in Pennsylvania’s credit union movement, including president of the York Chapter of Credit Unions from 1998-2012. He has served on the Association’s Regulatory Review and Governmental Affairs Committees, as well as the Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank’s Credit Union Council.

For the past 10 years, he served on the Board of Directors of Mid-Atlantic Corporate Federal Credit Union as Supervisory Committee Chair and Board Chair.  Flickinger is extremely active in many local initiatives in the York community and is tireless advocate of youth involvement in credit unions.

Under his leadership, the credit union expanded to more than 17,000 members and assets exceeding $160 million, with more than 50 employees and three branch locations.

“We were pleased to recognize Dennis Flickinger’s commitment to the credit union movement during our annual convention,” said PCUA President & CEO Patrick Conway.  “Dennis has instilled a strong legacy of service to members and to the York community.”

The Professional of the Year Award is presented in memory of William W. Pratt, who for more than three decades worked on behalf of credit unions. When Pratt began working at the Association in 1942, there were 550 credit unions in Pennsylvania – when he retired in 1965, there were nearly 1,300 credit unions in the Commonwealth.
