Student Choice supports credit union scholarship programs with $36,000 in contributions

Credit Union Student Choice, the leading provider of higher education financing solutions to America’s credit unions, awarded $36,000 in scholarship funds to college-bound students this spring and summer via its partner credit unions.

At its 2018 Empower U Conference, Student Choice celebrated its 10th anniversary and announced its intent to create the CU Student Choice Empowerment Foundation, a not-for-profit foundation focused on helping credit union members and employees overcome higher education funding challenges. In conjunction with these events, Student Choice also announced that its Board of Directors had authorized a special one-time $1,000 donation to be given to credit unions attending Empower U, which could then be distributed to deserving members. To date, thirty-six credit unions have awarded the scholarship funds as part of their college scholarship programs.

“We have been dreaming of hosting a scholarship program for our members and this was the best way to ignite that program,” said Bailey Germain, Community Engagement & Business Development Manager for City and County Credit Union. “To make it even more exciting, City & County matched the scholarship with an additional $1,000!”

City and County awarded its scholarship to Holly Abel, a mother looking to inspire her daughter by continuing her own education.

“Student Choice was founded with the goal of providing families an affordable, responsible way to fund a college education,” said Scott Patterson, President and CEO of Student Choice. “This special scholarship award is just another step in our ongoing mission of empowering and energizing America’s credit union movement by lowering the financial burden of higher education for both credit union members AND employees.”
