Summer of sharing now open for nominations

PLYMOUTH, MI (June 26, 2018) — Community Financial Credit Union is proud to announce its 8th annual Summer of Sharing. This summer, Community Financial will donate $1,000 a day for 60 days to a local charities or community groups nominated via SummerOfSharing.org. In total, Community Financial will donate $60,000 to local organizations.

Summer of Sharing’s 2018 donations will take place Monday through Friday from now until August 31. Members of the community are invited to visit SummerOfSharing.org and share a story explaining how their favorite nonprofit helps the community it serves. The nominations will stay live on the site for others to learn how these organizations are making a difference.

On June 14th, $1,000 was awarded to the Otsego County Commission on Aging, a local social-services agency that helps area seniors with a wide range of services

“We are thrilled and honored to receive the CFCU Summer of Sharing grant,” said Otsego County Commission on Aging Director Dale Gehman.  “The money will cover the raw food, production, and delivery costs for our Home Delivered Meals to about 120 area seniors for two days. This means these homebound seniors will have a friendly face deliver a healthy and hot meal.”

Community Financial is dedicated to helping build strong Michigan communities. Summer of Sharing is just one of the ways Community Financial aims to achieve that task.

“Community Financial has been enhancing the lives of our members and our communities for over 65 years,” said CEO Bill Lawton. “The word ‘community’ is not only in our name, but it is the core of what we do. We know that Community Financial would not exist without our members and the communities in which they live.”

Throughout the next three months, Community Financial will announce the winning recipients on SummerOfSharing.org. Community Financial has donated over $365,000 through its Summer of Sharing program since 2011.
