Summit Credit Union receives national honor for championing financial education

Madison-based cooperative awarded for educational programs throughout southern WI

MADISON, WI (December 5, 2018) — Summit Credit Union has been awarded BadCredit.org’s Editor’s Choice™ Award for excellence in financial wellness and education programs. The honor recognizes Summit’s dedication to improving the financial literacy and wellness of members and non-members throughout the Madison and Milwaukee areas.

“We believe everyone can be financially successful with the right tools and support, which is why Summit focuses so strongly on providing financial education,” said Summit CEO and President Kim Sponem. “Our employees are dedicated to helping members improve their financial lives.”

Summit’s financial education programs include the popular reality-based financial competition, Project Money, in which four teams work with a Summit financial coach to increase savings and reduce debt. The competition is also televised on Madison’s NBC affiliate, allowing area residents to follow along and try the financial tips for themselves.

Summit educational programs also target area students, including Project Teen Money where students at three Madison-area high schools create videos encouraging their peers to save and spend wisely.

The credit union also partners with local businesses, through Financial Wellness for Employees by Summit, to provide free financial education programs that teach employees to make good financial decisions, along with ongoing financial education events and seminars throughout the year.
