Teachers Federal Credit Union awards winners of 2022 scholarship funds
Student members receive over $32,000 towards the higher education journey
HAUPPAUGE, NY (June 23, 2022) — Teachers Federal Credit Union, one of the largest credit unions in the United States with $8.8 billion in assets and more than 400,000 members, awarded 13 graduating high school seniors a total of $32,500 in scholarships last week.
For more than 30 years, Teachers FCU has awarded annual scholarships as part of its commitment to making the pursuit of higher education attainable. Teachers’ scholarship committee evaluates applicants’ academic achievements, community engagement, and extracurricular activities. Additionally, students submit a written essay detailing their personal and professional aspirations, along with how their aspirations will impact the community.
“We recognize how costly higher education can be, and are proud to support student members embarking on their journey of continuous learning and success,” said Teachers President and CEO, Brad Calhoun. “Teachers was founded with education at its core, and these annual scholarship funds reinforce our commitment to ensure that more students have the resources to reach their academic goals. This year, eight accomplished students were awarded with a $2,500 Teachers Federal Credit Union Scholarship and five accomplished students were awarded with a $2,500 Robert G. Allen Scholarship.

- Alexa Gustafson of Selden, NY will be attending Oneonta State College.
- Matthew Sparhuber of Port Jefferson Station, NY will be attending Lehigh University.
- Sophia Pfeffer of Manorville, NY will be attending Boston College.
- Ava Eriksen of West Sayville, NY will be attending SUNY Cortland.
- Sophia Kumar of Jamaica, NY will be attending Ursinus College.
- Tyler Hovanec of North Babylon, NY will be attending Rutgers University.
- Nicholas Stamatakis of Deer Park, NY will be attending the UNC Chapel Hill.
- Emma LaMountain of Miller Place, NY will be attending Cornell University.
Robert G. Allen Scholarship Recipients:
- Megan Guarascio of Commack, NY will be attending Molloy College.
- Jackeline Torres of Hempstead, NY will be attending Stony Brook University.
- Natalie Kopala of Southold, NY will be attending St. Joseph’s College – Long Island.
- Emily Mohr of Bohemia, NY will be attending Stony Brook University.
- Michaela Barresi of Holtsville, NY will be attending St. Joseph’s College – Long Island.
