The American 1 raises $2,500 for the Cascades Humane Society through local pet expo

JACKSON, MI (March 4, 2015) — On Saturday, February 14th despite the weather, several hundred area residents attended the American 1 Paws & Claws Pet Expo and helped raise funds to benefit the Cascades Humane Society (CHS).

All vendor fees, concession proceeds, craft area donations, and contest proceeds were donated to CHS. CHS also received donated items for the shelter such as pet food, toys, litter, etc.

The event had a Pet Fashion show which featured animals from CHS that were available for adoption. This year’s Top Dog Model award went to the lovable Shammy, who sauntered down the dog walk and was most certainly a crowd favorite.

This year the pet photo contest was replaced with a Facebook Cutest Pet photo contest. The winner, Celia Dew and pup Lucy were presented with a gift bag filled with all of Lucy’s favorite things.

Overall, the event raised over $2,500 for the Cascades Humane Society. The credit union makes no proceeds, and covers the costs of all of the expenses beyond what is raised.

There were also several animals available for adoption from vendors and the Cascades Humane Society. Four Adoptions resulted from this year’s Paws and Claws event, including Top Dog Model, Shammy.
