The school bell rang and Democracy FCU showed up for success!
ALEXANDRIA, VA (September 12, 2019) — Democracy Federal Credit Union’s school supply drive initiative for August was a success! The supply drive brought in nearly 50 backpacks filled with supplies to get the year started right for students along with a donation of $490 from a Democracy FCU partner, Mr. James Groves and the National Education Association, and from the money raised and matched by Democracy FCU, each of the four schools were able to receive $150 to use towards the programs of their choice. The supply donations benefited students who attend:
- Amidon-Bowen Elementary School (Washington, D.C.)
- H.D. Woodson High School (Washington, D.C.)
- Jefferson-Houston Elementary School (Alexandria, VA)
- Suitland Elementary School (Suitland, MD)
The purpose of the drive was to give back to the community in which we serve. It provides an opportunity for many less fortunate children to have essential supplies necessary to be successful in school. Many school teachers spend money out of their own pockets to supplement the needs of their students, and we want to help alleviate as much of that burden as we can. Democracy FCU wants every child to feel the excitement of having new school supplies on their first day of school. We believe that every student should have the chance to succeed in the classroom and not be limited in their learning due to circumstances out of their control.
Democracy FCU is committed to helping our communities succeed in teaching our children. We will continue to provide financial literacy and education to the schools, and students, in the underserved areas that we serve.
