For the seventh year in a row, USC Credit Union and Notre Dame Federal Credit Union take the rivalry off the field for the $10,000 Charity Challenge. From September 23 rd to game day on October 12 th , 2019, both credit unions will compete to open the most checking accounts. The credit union who opens the most checking accounts will not only get to take home the trophy, but also get to select the winning charity to receive $10,000.
To even the playing field, both credit unions contributed $5,000 to the challenge and have selected a charity to fight for. USC Credit Union is proudly fighting for USC’s Good Neighbors Campaign (GNC), which is celebrating 25 years of community impact. Since 1994, GNC has given nearly 900 grants to support partnerships between the university and the community. They work hard to foster collaboration between USC faculty, staff, students, and local nonprofits to give back to organizations that are making a difference in the lives of neighborhood youths and families.
“This annual tradition honors the storied history between USC and Notre Dame by giving back to our community, plus it’s an event our staff and members all look forward to,” Gary Perez, President & CEO of USC Credit Union, explains. “This year, we’re ready to bring the trophy home, make a difference in our community, and show the ‘Fighting Irish’ the true meaning of Fight On!”
Although in 2018 Notre Dame FCU took home the trophy, both credit unions won by proudly donating $10,000 to the Kelly Cares Foundation. Created by Notre Dame's Head Football Coach Brian Kelly and his wife, Paqui (a two-time breast cancer survivor), the foundation focuses on a variety of community initiatives, including breast cancer awareness and research.
