Tropical Financial Creates ‘Dream Job’ To Connect With Young Adults About Their Personal Finances

On April 2, credit union launches search for a full-time ‘Spokester’ who will use social media 24/7 to get the get the conversation started   

MIRAMAR, FL (April 2, 2013) – We are more than just your daddy’s credit union. That’s the message Tropical Financial Credit Union is sending with the launch of Young & Free Florida, a unique social media program that encourages conversation with young adults about their financial needs.  Starting Tuesday, April 2, Tropical Financial begins the search for a talented individual to be the full-time spokesperson, or ‘Spokester’, who understands how to connect with 18-25 year olds in South Florida.

“Tropical Financial wants to help these young adults build a strong financial future,” said CEO/President Richard Helber. “So, we’re looking for someone who can connect with and engage this group online, in social media and in-person in the community.”

Young & Free Florida is a web-based initiative (www.YoungFreeFlorida.com) that addresses the unique financial needs of the 18-to-25 crowd. The Young & Free Florida Spokester selected will be offered the job for a full year with salary and benefits. He or she will attend regional events and keep YoungFreeFlorida.com fresh with videos, blogs and tips that educate, entertain and engage young people.

“We’re looking for someone who’s creative, energetic and outgoing,” said Helber. “Someone who knows how to use social media to connect, get involved in the community and get conversations started.”

To enter, applicants must bring their creativity, tech savvy and passion for helping others to a short, 60-second video demonstrating why they would be the ideal Young & Free Florida Spokester. They will also need to submit an entertaining blog post on a financial topic, completing their entry by 3 p.m. on May 7. A public vote from May 8-17 will determine the 10 finalists who will be invited for an in-person “meet up” event before the final decision is made by Tropical Financial.

The winning candidate must live in Miami-Dade, Broward or Palm Beach County and be willing to work full-time during the one-year term. The Spokester will be paid a $25,000 salary, plus benefits, and will also be provided with all the gear needed to do the job, including a MacBook Pro notebook, an HD video camera, and an iPhone with a one-year paid contract, plus a Young & Free Florida car to drive. Best of all, they get to keep the computer and camera.

Applications will be accepted online at YoungFreeFlorida.com until 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7.
