Tucson Federal Credit Union (TFCU) selected three local nonprofits to receive $45,000 for the 8th annual Community Partnership Awards

TUCSON, AZ (May 4, 2018) — Tucson Federal Credit Union (TFCU) selected three local nonprofits to receive $45,000 for the 8th annual Community Partnership Awards. TFCU’s application process determines the charitable organizations’ ability to transform lives and measure the direct impact of the funds. This year TFCU selected the Emerge! Center Against Domestic Abuse (Emerge) to receive the largest donation of $25,000 and Integrative Touch for Kids (ITK) and Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Foundation (SARSEF) to receive $10,000 each. President/CEO, Susan Stansberry, said, “The strength of our community belongs to each one of us. Through the Community Partnership Awards, TFCU is helping build a better place for all of us by supporting those in need.”

About the recipients:

Emerge’s reach extends to over 5,900 domestic violence victims annually. They provide comprehensive services including a 24-hour crisis hotline, case management, support groups, financial literacy, connections to community resources, and basic needs. They are the only designated emergency shelter for domestic violence survivors in Tucson, which housed 617 victims in 2017. TFCU’s donation will fund the operation of this shelter to keep more families off the streets in their time of need.

ITK supports families whose children have health and medical needs. With a reach of over 3,500 people each year, ITK provides a holistic approach to health and healing that goes beyond the hospital’s capabilities. Through their Hospital Heroes program, children and their families benefit from over 100 different healing therapies that promote a healthy body, mind, and spirit. TFCU’s donation will allow ITK to provide sessions to approximately 200 additional children in 2018.

TFCU selected SARSEF for their proven success of strengthening diversity for minority and female youth in STEM subjects and to continue the credit union’s legacy of supporting causes in education. Over 95,000 K-12 students participate in science, technology, engineering, and math education through SARSEF programs. TFCU’s donation will fund this Educational Outreach Program and provide more opportunities for learning and career development for our youth.
