UCare and Minnesota credit unions promote health savings accounts

Innovative collaboration designed to help improve consumers health care and financial literacy

ST. PAUL, MN (November 5, 2019) — UCare has teamed up with the Minnesota Credit Union Network (MnCUN) to educate Minnesotans about the opportunity to open Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) at one of Minnesota’s credit unions.

To complement their 2020 individual and family health plans that are compatible with HSAs, UCare will promote credit unions as a trusted option for consumers to learn about and choose an HSA.  In October, MnCUN launched a new website,, to help connect consumers with credit unions that offer health savings accounts.

“Health care costs remain a concern for our members, and we thought that collaborating with Minnesota credit unions would provide the education and services that Minnesotans deserve to manage health care expenses,” UCare CEO Mark Traynor said. “UCare is people-powered health care and the values alignment between UCare and the member-owned Minnesota Credit Unions creates synergy on a significant financial issue for Minnesota families.”

Credit unions will also have access to a variety of marketing and educational materials to help their members understand HSA-compatible health plans and how they work with HSAs.

“As member-owned financial cooperatives, credit unions exist to support the financial wellness of their members,” said Mark Cummins, Minnesota Credit Union Network President and CEO. “We are proud to partner with UCare to help more Minnesotans manage their healthcare spending.”

Consumers are encouraged to visit the Minnesota Health Savings Account Finder to find a credit union they can join.
