In April, United Federal Credit Union asked Hendersonville children to submit coloring sheets and committed to donating $1 for each sheet collected. 790 coloring sheets submitted equaled a total donation of $790 to St. Gerard House.
Bill Schreck, UFCU Hendersonville branch manager explains, “The coloring contest was one of a few things we did in April to support our ongoing partnership with St. Gerard House. April was Autism Awareness month so we had a platform for building awareness, but we feel it’s critical that organizations like this get our support all the time so they can continue to do great things in our community.”
The coloring contest was conceived to bring awareness to autism among Hendersonville’s youth during Autism Awareness Month. UFCU also supported St. Gerard House by sponsoring a Financial Literacy 101 training class on April 17, at its branch and by sponsoring its First Words of Hope Luncheon on April 25, 2018.
As part of the contest, a $500 Youth Savings Deposit was awarded to one of the children who submitted a coloring sheet. The parents of four-year-old Lilly Frye from Fletcher were awarded the $500 Youth Saving Deposit in Lilly’s name on April 30, 2018.
Located in Hendersonville, St. Gerard House provides comprehensive, individualized behavioral, academic, functional living and social skills training grounded in the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for children diagnosed with autism. ABA has proven to be an important element of early intervention programs which help children with autism reach their full potential.
