UFCU helps to raise $20,000 for the Alex Mandarino Foundation during June’s Duck Duck Run 1K + 5K

United Federal Credit Union (UFCU) is pleased to announce its role in helping to raise $20,000 during the Alex Mandarino Foundation’s 6th Annual Duck Duck Run 1K and 5K for childhood cancer research.

The fundraiser encouraged children of all ages and adults to run or walk to support the cause. It was held on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Margaret Upton Arboretum in St. Joseph, Michigan and was attended by approximately 1,000 people.

“UFCU is proud to support an organization like The Alex Mandarino Foundation and the exemplary work it does to help families facing the battle of their lives,” says Terry O’Rourke, President/CEO of United Federal Credit Union. “The Duck Duck Run event showcases the same values that we embody at UFCU – family, community and supporting one another when it is most needed.”

UFCU hosted a pre-race packet pick-up on behalf of the foundation at its St. Joseph, Michigan branch the day before the event. The pre-event pick-up was supported by UFCU volunteers as well as volunteers from the foundation.

UFCU also hosted a tent at the event on June 16 and handed out sunglasses and travel water misters to participants and attendees. The tent also offered entertainment such as corn hole and jumbo yard Jenga to escape the summer heat.

The Alex Mandarino Foundation was founded in 2013 by Tony and Katie Mandarino to honor the courage and strength of their son, Alex. The non-profit’s goal is to help save the lives of children with cancer. Without funding, research can't progress to find a cure for childhood cancers.
