Unison Credit Union awards 2020 John Aman Memorial Scholarships

Four high school seniors chosen based on community service and academics

KAUKAUNA, WI (June 8, 2020) — Unison Credit Union, a full-service financial institution serving Northeast Wisconsin, is pleased to announce the 2020 John Aman Memorial Scholarship recipients. Four Northeast Wisconsin high school seniors each received a $2,000 scholarship for their excellent service in the community and exceptional academics. Recipients include Nathan Hietpas, Eli Servais, Leianna Shortess, and Sarah Vander Heiden.

“One of the ways we give back to our communities is by investing in the future of our youth,” Unison Credit Union President and CEO Mark Hietpas said. “These scholarship recipients have demonstrated their character and commitment to serving others, and we are proud to support them as they continue their education.”

The 2020 John Aman Memorial Scholarship recipients include:

Nathan Hietpas, Little Chute High School, Little Chute WI Class vice-president and part of the high school baseball, wrestling, and football teams for the past three years, Nathan also served as football team captain and belonged to the Athletic Leadership Club during his senior year. In the community, Nathan invested his time and energy to helping student-athletes in football camps, Inspire Sports Camps for youth with disabilities, and Little Chute Diamond Club baseball clinics for kids. Nathan plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse this fall, majoring in business management.

Eli Servais, Notre Dame de la Baie Academy, Green Bay WI Both an athlete and musician, Eli served as an advocate and vice-president of the Notre Dame de la Baie Academy Service Branch, helping to raise funds for local, national, and international causes and events. Eli also welcomed new students as a Big Buddy and retreat leader and was actively involved with ASTRA school service programs around the community. He also volunteered at Exceptional Equestrians, assisting children with disabilities who were going through horse therapy. This fall, Eli will study pre-medicine at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.

Leianna Shortess, Kaukauna High School, Kaukauna WI During her high school years, Leianna devoted several hours volunteering as a member of National Honor Society, Key Club, Diversity Club and the Living Everyday Alcohol and Drug-Free program. She was also active in her church, teaching Sunday School and going on mission trips as well as volunteering for a two-month-long City of Kaukauna civic engagement project last year. Leianna will attend the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse this fall, majoring in finance and organizational/professional communication.

Sarah Vander Heiden, Wrightstown High School, Wrightstown WI Sarah has tutored fellow high school students, assisted in Kindergarten classes, and served as the student director of area American Red Cross school blood drives. An active 4-H member, she mentored youth and volunteered at events such as the Brown County Arts Festival and Highway Pickup program. She also volunteered at her church, the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign and organized a “Giving Tree” at her school as part of Adopt-A-Family. Sarah will attend the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay this fall with an elementary education major.

Unison awards this scholarship annually in honor of John Aman, their first CEO, who was hired in 1970. Aman is remembered for his commitment to the credit union industry as well as serving the community.
