Unitus Community Credit Union receives philanthropy award for commitment to local nonprofits

PORTLAND, OR (September 23, 2013) — Unitus Community Credit Union, a Portland-based credit union with more than 80,000 members, was recently honored as one of Portland’s most generous companies for its 2012 philanthropic giving.  The award marks the fourth straight year Unitus has been recognized by the Portland Business Journal at its annual Corporate Philanthropy Awards luncheon.

“The nonprofits we support are outstanding organizations committed to improving the quality of life in our communities,” said Unitus President & CEO Patricia Smith.  “This award is really an opportunity to acknowledge them and their dedication to helping others.”

Unitus currently partners with several community organizations such as SnowCap Community Charities, Good Neighbor Center and Credit Unions for Kids.  Last month, Unitus held its annual fundraiser for the Children’s Miracle Network, raising over $57,000 for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland.

In addition to charitable financial giving, Unitus is committed to completing a “Random Act of Kindness” each month in one of its communities.  Past efforts have included, among other things, establishing an emergency food pantry for one local community and a sock and hat drive for the homeless.

As part of the awards ceremony, Portland Business Journal recognized 31 local companies across three categories—small, medium and large corporations.  Unitus was honored as one of 10 companies in the small corporation category.
