Ventura County Credit Union (VCCU), a not-for-profit financial institution, partnered with Ribbons of Life (RoL) Breast Cancer Foundation for the fifth year in a row to raise funds in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
During the month of October, VCCU collaborated with the Oxnard Firefighters Foundation to sell breast cancer awareness T-shirts to members at the Oxnard, Port Hueneme and RiverPark VCCU branches. Collectively, the two organizations raised $1,185 through T-shirt sales. In total, through the combination of T-shirt sales and individual donations from VCCU members and staff, the credit union raised $1,343.72 to donate to Ribbons of Life.
“We are proud to offer our support to Ribbons of Life year after year,” said VCCU’s assistant vice president of marketing, Tina Estes. “In Ventura County, approximately 600 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. Through our partnership with this wonderful organization, we are able to help make a difference for the individuals and families in our community who are affected by this disease.”
This year, Ribbons of Life celebrated its 16th anniversary of providing education, advocacy, and emotional and social support for those facing breast cancer in Ventura County. The organization was started in 2002 by three-time breast cancer survivor Lisa Barreto under the name Ventura College Breast Cancer Education and Advocacy Group, and in 2007 the organization officially became a 501(c)3 nonprofit under the Ribbons of Life name.
