Veridian Credit Union doubles attendance at Community Shred Day

WATERLOO, IA (May 18, 2015) — Veridian Credit Union held a free Community Shred Day on Saturday, May 16 at five Veridian branches across the state. The event drew more than 2,472 people who safely discarded 61,792 pounds of private documents, more than doubling the attendance and shred quantity from the credit union’s shred event last spring.

Veridian partnered with Iron Mountain® and On-Site Information Destruction, Inc. to provide the shred opportunity at Veridian branches in Ankeny, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Waterloo and West Des Moines. The shredded material will be recycled into commercial grade paper towels, toilet paper and other paper products. In total, an estimated 772 trees were saved. Veridian is planning to host another Community Shred Day on October 3.

“Shredding private, unwanted documents is an easy way to help protect your identity,” said Mark Koppedryer, Veridian’s vice president of branches. “Veridian hosts a Community Shred Day twice a year to make it even easier, and to raise awareness of the importance of taking steps to keep your personal information secure.
