Workers Credit Union announces holiday Food Bank donation

Credit Union pledges $5 donation for every new membership

LITTLETON, MA (November 27, 2018) — Workers Credit Union announces it has launched a fall and holiday partnership to raise funds for the Worcester County Food Bank. From now until Dec. 31, 2018, the credit union will give the Worcester County Food Bank $5 for every new member or account and for every download of its mobile app. More information can be found here.

The campaign is simple – new members join the credit union for the standard $5 membership fee and the credit union earmarks a $5 donation to the Food Bank. The donation is automatic, no other registration or designation is needed to participate. The donation also applies to any member, new or existing, who downloads the credit union’s mobile app.

“We are proud to make a pledge to the Worcester County Food Bank to support its mission at a critical time of year,” said Doug Petersen, president and CEO of Workers Credit Union. “In our greater community, one in 10 of our neighbors are food insecure and we’re glad to create this program to help ease the burden this season.”

For every $1 received, Worcester County Food Bank distributes $4 worth of donated food.

“We’re so grateful to Workers Credit Union and its members, who – through their generosity – really are making a difference,” said Worcester County Food Bank Executive Director Jean G. McMurray. “Their generosity is a beautiful show of support for neighbors struggling with hunger in Fitchburg and throughout Worcester County. It’s also a demonstration of commitment to creating a hunger-free community.”

Workers Credit Union has been a long-time supporter of the food bank. In addition to this partnership, Workers and its members donated $11,299 to the Worcester County Food Bank in September as part of its annual GiveBack program. The Workers Credit Union GiveBack program is a cash back program that shares profits with its members. Members receive cash back annually based on account and loan balances. Workers Credit Union has given back more than $10 million in GiveBack funds to its members in the last five years.
