The latest on checked bag fees

We are only a few days away from the Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington D.C. – the first conference under the banner of America’s Credit Unions! This is exciting. As we all get set to travel to our nation’s capital, you may have noticed that a few airlines have recently decided to hike up checked bag prices in 2024. In case you’re not already aware, here’s a rundown of the price hikers and then ones who stayed put…

American Airlines: On February 20th, AA hiked up their checked bag prices $5 all around (online, in-person, second bag).

United Airlines: Starting February 24, United decided to also hike up their prices by $5 (same prices as AA except a second bag purchased at the airport will cost you an extra 5).

JetBlue: As of February 1, Jet Blue added a $10 increase for bags checked less than 24 hours from departure (first bag, second bag).

Alaska Airlines: On January 2, Alaska Airlines raised their checked bag prices (first bag, second bag) by $5.

Delta and Southwest: I saved the best for last. I know it’s early in the year, but neither of these airlines have bumped up their checked bag fees as of today.

I know $5-$10 isn’t going to break the bank, but these days it’s nice to get a heads up. Hope to see you all at #GAC2024!
