4 questions to ask before you relocate credit union staff during a crisis

So where will you send people when their normal work location is not accessible? How many people do you send? What will they do? What infrastructure do they need? All these questions and more seem to surface while holding tabletop exercises. I have the pleasure of facilitating many tabletop exercises and when I ask these questions I get blank stares from most of my audiences. Knowing when and where you will relocate credit union staff is imperative to the success of your plan.

The first question I usually get back is, “How can I identify how many people I need?” This is all accomplished after the business impact analysis (BIA) has been completed. Since the BIA is the foundation of all planning you need to reference the data that has been compiled to answer these simple questions.

Let’s start with,

1) What will they do?

  • What are the Critical Processes identified in the BIA?
    • Processes that have a huge impact to the bottom line and/or a direct member impact

2) How many people do I send?

  • How many people does it take to complete the Critical processes?
    • Fewest amount of staff to continue to function properly
