3 reasons you’re not getting promoted

Everybody likes a promotion. The new title. The pay bump. The added responsibilities. What’s not to love? For those who are content in the position that they’re in, a promotion is no big deal. But for those who see it as a part of their desired career trajectory, it can be frustrating when the promotion doesn’t seem to be anywhere in sight. So what’s the deal? Where is the promotion? Here are a few reasons your promotion hasn’t showed up yet…

You’re lacking something: If you’re looking to be upgraded into a leadership position, check to be sure that you’re actually ready for it. Whether it’s the skills and knowledge needed to do the job or just basic leadership and management skills, show your bosses that you’re equipped and ready to get the job done.

You’re not going after it: If you’re not coming up with new ideas or solutions to problems, you’re not growing. If you want to be considered for a promotion, you need to show that you’ve got what it takes to be a leader inside your company. Instead of just pointing out problems, take care of them.

You’re not in the right mindset: Is your focus stuck? Are you having trouble looking past your day-to-day responsibilities? Take a step back and get a better view of the big picture. Focus on how your job affects others, and how everyone’s job affects the goals and mission of the company. You need to see everything if you don’t want to stay where you’re at.
