5 tips for flying to GAC!

Some people hate flying but for most of us, it can be a fun and exciting way to travel. There are moments that can be overwhelming or stressful, so here are some tips to help make your flying experience more comfortable and enjoyable…

Be prepared: For those of us flying to D.C. this week, we’re probably flying into a familiar airport and on a familiar airline. If that’s not the case, do some research so there aren’t any surprises. And be sure to check the weather for your trip so you can make sure to pack appropriately for the climate and activities you have planned.

Be early: Now this doesn’t mean you have to be “dad early”. There is no need to be at the airport 4 hours before your flight. But, you should make sure to allow plenty of time to get through security, as lines can be long and delays have been known to occur. If you’re flying a familiar route, you probably already know what to expect (I want to walk in the airport about 20 minutes before boarding begins).

Be comfortable: I feel like it’s always wise to wear comfortable clothing and shoes that are easy to slip on and off. I want to go through security fast and flip flops normally do the trick for me. And as far as being comfortable on a flight, who wants to be uncomfortable on a flight?

Be hydrated: Drink plenty of water before and during your flight, and avoid anything that can dehydrate you. Bottled water can be expensive at the airport so bring an empty Nalgene (or your favorite bottle) and fill it up in the terminal.

Be entertained: Bring a book, or download some tunes or a movie to keep yourself entertained during the flight. If your flight isn’t very long, you might be stuck on a plane without an entertainment system in the seat back, so it’s always good to have a backup plan. Also, the airline’s headphones are terrible, so don’t forget to bring your own.
