7 ways to be happier

Help others

One of the best ways to make yourself happier is to make someone else feel happy. We’ve all heard that’s it’s better to give than to receive. Many studies have shown that those who volunteer are happier than those who don’t. An act of kindness can also have a great effect on you. Come up with some simple ways you can make someone’s day and watch it immediately turn your mood around.

Hug someone

This one isn’t complicated. The power of the hug has been well documented. Hugs have lots of health benefits and can help you feel close and connected to those you care about. We’ve all more than likely hugged someone before and then immediately felt the difference it can make. Next time you’re down, give it a try.

Sleep more

Sometimes there’s just not enough hours in the day. Whatever the reason for your lack of shut-eye, try and make sleep a priority. According to researchers at Cornell, happy people sleep better and sleeping well makes you happier. Sounds like a win-win to me.

Laugh!

Laughing releases the same endorphins that your body releases when you exercise, so if you’re not feeling like going for a walk, watch something funny. Like hugging, laughing also has a lot of health benefits. Even if you don’t really feel like laughing, sometimes just faking it can spur an actual fit of laughter. If you don’t believe me, give it a try.

Get a pet

We all need someone to love. If you’re an animal lover and you’re down and lonely, a pet may be just what the doctor ordered to take your blues away.

Be around happy people

Happy people can obviously lift their own spirits, so they’ll probably have a positive effect on yours as well. Happiness is influenced by those we surround ourselves with, so surround yourself with positivity!

Music

I don’t know about you, but I’ve got a Spotify playlist titled “Feel Good Music.” These tracks can always boost my mood. You know better than anyone what music picks you up, so when you’re down, put those tunes on and tell yourself you’re going to be happy.
