Stephen Westbrooks, a dedicated member of Vibe Credit Union’s Board of Directors since 2006, has been named Chairman of the Board. Westbrooks brings nearly two decades of board service, more than 36 years of professional leadership experience, and a people-centered approach that reflects Vibe’s commitment to its members, team members, and the communities it serves.
During his time on the Board, Westbrooks has served on several key committees, including Strategic Planning, Human Resources, and the Associate Director Program. His experience, collaborative leadership style, and focus on continued growth have made him a valuable voice in supporting Vibe’s mission, culture, and member focused service.
Westbrooks has built an impressive career with AT&T Corporation, where he has held roles in circuit design, planning engineering, business management, and project management. He currently serves as a Regional Senior Project Manager, overseeing audits for the Northeastern U.S. market.
“Over the past 10 plus years Vibe has gone through several phases of evolution, to include rebranding, new partnerships, three CEO's, becoming a leader in community service, and the establishment of the Good Vibes foundation.” Said Westbrooks.
“As a board of directors, it's our time to evolve as a board that is engaged and in alignment with elevating our communities and creating opportunities. As the new chairman, I'm excited to guide us along this journey of demonstrating servant-leadership and an unwavering commitment to excellence.”
A natural leader and mentor, Westbrooks has shared his time and talents beyond the workplace through church leadership, counseling, teaching, and coaching. He coached an AAU youth basketball team to a state championship and national tournament appearance, helping young athletes grow both on and off the court.
Westbrooks holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and has earned multiple certifications through AT&T, including the Certified Engineering Selection Module and Certified Quality Installation. His expertise in engineering, business management,
project management, public speaking, and personal coaching brings valuable perspective to his work on Vibe’s Board.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Westbrooks holds the designation of Certified Credit Union Volunteer through CUNA, now known as America’s Credit Unions. He has successfully managed major telecommunications projects, including installations for Detroit’s three casinos, Comerica Park, and Ford Field. He also led the construction of an 8,000 square foot gymnasium for his church.
Westbrooks grew up in Detroit and now resides in Southfield. Outside of his professional and board service, he enjoys working out, traveling, teaching, counseling, watching great movies and series, singing, and spending time with others. A former competitive swimmer, he was an all-city athlete in high school and continued competing into his late 20s.
With his passion for leadership, community, and personal growth, Westbrooks reflects the values and spirit of Vibe Credit Union. As Chairman, he will help guide Vibe’s continued commitment to financial wellbeing, community impact, and people helping people.
