Point Breeze Credit Union “The Harvest” charity golf tournament raises $30,000 for the Maryland Food Bank

Annual event aims to support the Maryland Food Bank’s statewide hunger-relief efforts

Point Breeze Credit Union announced today that its annual “The Harvest” Golf Tournament raised $30,000 to benefit the Maryland Food Bank. Held Monday afternoon, September 20, 2021, at Hayfields Country Club in Hunt Valley, the charity tournament drew more than 130 participants for 18 holes of golf, food, and prizes – all of which raised money to support the Maryland Food Bank’s mission to feed people, strengthen communities, and end hunger for more Marylanders.

“I want to thank everyone who participated in this year’s ‘The Harvest’ Golf Tournament,” said Bernie McLaughlin, CEO of Point Breeze Credit Union. “Because of the generosity of our sponsors and participating golfers, we were able to raise enough funds to provide the equivalent of 60,000 meals to Marylanders in need.”

“We are so grateful to Point Breeze Credit Union for hosting this event each year and to every participant and sponsor,” said Carmen Del Guercio, President & CEO of the Maryland Food Bank. “Both the financial support and the awareness this tournament brings to the issue of food insecurity in Maryland helps us feed more Marylanders facing food insecurity than ever before. It truly takes a village.”

The Maryland Food Bank has served as a key community resource throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, having distributed enough food to provide more than 72 million meals statewide between March 2020 and August 2021. The Maryland Food Bank supports a network of more than 350 community organizations across the state that collectively provide nearly 1,450 distribution points with much-needed food for their local communities.

With this year’s proceeds, “The Harvest” Golf Tournament has helped Point Breeze reach $100,000 in donations to Maryland Food Bank since the tournament’s inaugural year in 2018, thanks to support from participating golfers and many community sponsors. This year’s golf tournament was generously sponsored by Kaufman & Canoles, Gordon Feinblatt, CUNA Mutual Group, Jerry’s Chevrolet, ISI, KCI Technologies, and many others.
