Nancy Williamson, who has led ServU Credit Union for the past 49 years has announced plans to retire at the end of 2021. She leaves as only the second CEO in the credit union’s 65-year history.
Williamson started her career at ServU as a loan file clerk while attending college. When she started, the Credit Union had assets of $500,000. After graduating from Elmira College with a degree in Accounting she became CEO at the age of 25. Today, the Credit Union has nearly 40,000 members, six branch offices, over 100 employees and assets exceeding $400 million dollars.
During her career, Williamson oversaw the opening of seven new locations, multiple name changes and four mergers. She is a well-known public speaker; teaching others about how to protect themselves and their accounts from fraud and scams.
Williamson says her proudest achievement is building an organization that is different than the competition. “When you call our credit union you get what we call the ServU advantage, a real person to answer the phone. We do not determine your loan rate by your credit score, and our staff have a desire to anticipate your needs. Our members own this credit union and our mission is to exceed their expectations.”
The ServU Credit Union Board of Directors has selected Keith Orfanides, the current Executive Vice President of ServU, to succeed Williamson. “The Credit Union is in a great financial position and my successor will undoubtedly carry this credit union forward” said Williamson. “He knows the culture and has been at ServU for over 31 years”.
“It’s my privilege to continue the great legacy that Nancy has established here at ServU” stated Keith Orfanides. “Our staff will continue to work hard to fulfill our mission and exceed our member’s expectation.”
