Great Basin Federal Credit Union expands field of membership

Reno-based Great Basin Federal Credit Union recently received approval from the National Credit Union Administration to expand its field of membership. For over 70 years, the credit union has prided itself on serving those who live, work, worship, or attend school in Washoe County, NV but sought to expand its charter to serve twelve counties across Northern Nevada and Treasure Valley, ID.

“We are proud of our roots in Reno and Sparks, but the key to any business’ success is growth – and Great Basin is no different,” says credit union CEO, Jennifer Denoo. Denoo, who has been with the credit union for nearly 30 years, says the desire to grow stemmed from the desire to share Great Basin’s mission of providing a fair, honest, and simple banking experience to everyone who walks through the door. “The demographics of our new counties are similar to the members we already serve in Washoe County,” says Denoo. “We know that our products and services will provide them with convenience and confidence to make decisions that will build financial stability and wealth.”

With its three brick-and-mortar branches located in Reno and Sparks, NV, all members will have access to the credit union’s full suite of digital products and services including a 100% online account and loan application, access to live chat and personable call center representatives, virtual financial coaching, credit and money management tools, as well as mobile banking and remote deposit. Great Basin also participates in shared branching through the Co-Op Network. According to Elisabeth Hadler, Chief Experience Officer, “We’ve invested a lot of time and resources into expanding our digital offerings in recent years. With our new members who live outside of Washoe County, we don’t want them to feel that we are inaccessible. They’re as much a part of our Great Basin family as the members we’ve been serving for the past 70+ years.”

Membership is now open to those who live, work, worship, or attend school in the following  counties: Washoe, NV; Carson City, NV; Churchill, NV; Douglas, NV;  Humboldt, NV: Lander, NV; Lyon, NV; Pershing, NV; Storey, NV; Canyon, ID; Gem, ID;  and Owyhee; ID.

Great Basin Federal Credit Union was formed January 11, 1951. Since its inception, Great Basin has evolved into a community-chartered credit union now serving more than 22,000 members in select counties in Northern Nevada and Treasure Valley Idaho.
