Spring cleaning on your to-do list? Looking to lower your risk of identity theft? LAFCU is offering a free event to assist with both.
As part of the credit union’s annual Shred Day, a mobile shredding truck will be at LAFCU’s headquarters/West Lansing Branch, 106 N. Marketplace Blvd., Lansing, April 22 from 10 a.m. to noon, for on-site, secure destruction of personal documents.
Recommended materials to shred have identifying information about financial, medical, and Social Security accounts. Examples are receipts, address labels, bills, insurance claims, tax forms and checking, savings and loan statements. Each person may drop off up to four banker’s boxes of materials.
“If you’re cleaning out files this spring or have saved billing statements or other documents with personal information on them that are no longer needed, it is best practice to shred them to lower your risk of and prevent identity theft,” said Alyssa Troub, LAFCU marketing and communications specialist. “The public is invited and encouraged to take advantage of this free, annual LAFCU event because the credit union wants everyone to be safe from the dangers of fraud and theft and support the financial health of the entire community.”

LAFCU invites the public to bring documents to its headquarters/West Lansing Branch for free, on-site shredding, Saturday, April 22.
