Credit Union Spotlight, presented by CUInsight, features credit unions taking action and changing their local communities. Join us as we recognize and celebrate the important work these credit unions do to bring their mission to life.

SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union, as part its ongoing commitment to Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), now part of Rady Children’s Health, has announced support of a nine-story ambulatory building designed to provide care for children and families across Southern California. In recognition of the contribution, the building’s first-floor lobby will be named the SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union Lobby.

The new outpatient tower is a thoughtfully designed center for pediatric care, featuring outpatient imaging, oncology infusion services, specialty clinics, a dedicated research floor, and family-friendly amenities.

As SchoolsFirst FCU CEO Bill Cheney noted:

"We are deeply committed to supporting CHOC and its mission to deliver world-class pediatric care. Our relationship with CHOC reflects our belief in people helping people through decades of charitable giving, volunteerism and community investment. This new facility will provide essential comfort, healing and hope to families in need, and we are profoundly honored to be a part of making this vision a reality."

For CHOC Foundation, the gift reinforces the hospital’s patient-centered approach. Foundation Chief Development Officer Jessica Miley remarked:

"We are deeply grateful to SchoolsFirst FCU for this extraordinary investment in CHOC’s future. This gift will help us create a welcoming, healing space for children and families, and it beautifully reflects the community spirit and sense of responsibility that guide everything SchoolsFirst FCU does. They are true partners in our mission to bring hope and healing to those we serve.”

SchoolsFirst FCU’s support of CHOC spans more than twenty years of financial contributions, volunteer work, and community-based giving. Over that time, SchoolsFirst staff and members have supported child life programs, neonatal services, and other family care initiatives. They’ve also taken part in CHOC’s Walk in the Park, gala events, holiday care kit packaging, and meal distribution to bring comfort and care to hospitalized children and their families.

By investing in CHOC’s future, SchoolsFirst FCU continues to demonstrate the credit union difference—showing how financial strength and a people-first mission can create healthier, stronger communities.
