Credit Union Spotlight, presented by CUInsight, features credit unions taking action and changing their local communities. Join us as we recognize and celebrate the important work these credit unions do to bring their mission to life.
Luminate proudly hosted its first-ever Impact Day in June, bringing together a dynamic group of credit union professionals for a day dedicated to purpose-driven exploration and community engagement. Held as a preconference event to Luminate’s Annual Conference in New Orleans, the inaugural Impact Day convened forty participants to immerse themselves in the missions of three impactful local nonprofits.
Attendees connected directly with Son of a Saint, the Bayou District Foundation, and Bless Your Heart Nonprofit. These organizations work to address some of New Orleans’ most pressing social challenges with innovation, compassion, and heart.

Designed to bring the credit union movement's values to life, Impact Day focused on two key cooperative principles: concern for community and education, training, and information. With curiosity and compassion, participants spent the day learning from nonprofit leaders, gaining fresh perspectives on community challenges and uncovered new ways to make a meaningful impact through their institutions.
“Impact Day was created to inspire action,” said Lynette Hazelton, Director of Impact & Foundation at Luminate. “It’s about reminding ourselves that credit unions aren’t just financial institutions—they’re agents for social good. Today, we saw that come alive.”
As Luminate continues its commitment to people helping people, experiences like Impact Day reinforce its mission to advance the credit union movement with purpose and heart. This inaugural event marks the beginning of a new annual tradition, one that empowers credit union leaders to engage more deeply with their communities and champion meaningful change.
The credit union movement is stronger when we remember why it began—and when we keep showing up for the people who need us most.
