Congress passes funding legislation, averts partial shutdown

The House and Senate passed funding legislation Thursday to avoid a partial government shutdown that would have occurred at midnight March 1. Appropriations scheduled to expire March 1 have been extended to March 8.

This includes funding for six appropriations bills: Agriculture Department and Food and Drug Administration; Commerce and Justice Departments; Science, Energy and Water development; Interior Department; Military construction and the Department of Veterans Affairs; Transportation Department; and Housing and Urban Development.

It would also extend the deadline for the other six appropriations bills (currently scheduled to expire March 8) to March 22. This includes Financial Services and General Government appropriations.

The legislation also extends National Flood Insurance Program funding to March 22.
