A couple of weeks ago, I read an article where the writer discussed quizzes and how, for decades, magazines aimed at women have promoted quizzes on the covers to lure shoppers into buying a copy. It works.
I’m not a women’s magazine reader and never thought much about those quizzes as a marketing tool, but I have seen quizzes used with marketing promotions.
A quiz is an involvement device, and like all involvement devices it encourages the prospect to more closely inspect the campaign materials. Here’s an example of a quiz found in a subscription promotion from Archaeology magazine.
