2016 CUNA Government Affairs Conference schedule

Nearly 5,000 credit union members in Washington for CUNA GAC

WASHINGTON, DC (February 22, 2016) — Nearly 5,000 credit union advocates are in Washington for the Credit Union National Association’s (CUNA) Governmental Affairs Conference, taking place now through February 24 at the Washington Convention Center. Keynote speakers include Lisa Bodell, Ted Koppel and a 2016 Elections Point-Counterpoint with Paul Begala and Mike Murphy. Key policymakers include CFPB Director Cordray, NCUA board members Debbie Matz, J. Mark McWatters and Rick Metsger as well several U.S. senators and representatives. Additionally, CUNA officials will outline advocacy priorities for 2016.

With the comment period for NCUA’s proposed field of membership (FOM) rule closed on February 8, it’s time for credit unions to start planning for the impact of the final rule. The proposal would overhaul NCUA’s regulations, adding flexibility and options determining a federal credit union’s FOM that will enhance the federal charter. Panelists will discuss the implications of these proposed rules and how they can be used to help federal credit unions serve potential members previously unavailable. Rick Metsger, Vice Chairman of NCUA, is giving open remarks.
