2021 toilet paper donation to Catholic Charities Tri-County Services
ALBANY, NY (December 7, 2021) — First New York Federal Credit Union lives by the philosophy of “People Helping People” and is committed to serving our members and our community. Since 2016 First New York has partnered with Catholic Charities Tri-County Services in collecting toilet paper to be distributed throughout the community to people in need. In wanting to give back we learned that Capital Region residents who receive Food Stamps (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs) are not permitted to purchase personal hygiene products; no deodorant, no soap, no shampoo, no laundry detergent, no razors and not even toilet paper can be purchased with their benefits. We saw that we could all join together and try to fill this void. In 2020, we collected 10,484 and are hoping to reach our goal of 12K this year.
In an effort to assist this local nonprofit, First New York Employees, Members and the Community have collected almost 11K rolls of toilet paper and in this last week are striving to hit their goal of 12K rolls for Catholic Charities Tri-County Services, an agency made up of 5 food pantries and 2 soup kitchens located throughout the Capital District. We will be presenting the donation to Catholic Charities Tri-County Services on December 9th. Due to COVID-19 and keeping everyone safe, we are asking that any media interested in covering the story should contact 518-393-1326 ext. 1804 to schedule a time on December 9th starting at 10am. We will only have one media outlet in at a time and social distance requirements are in place.
