National leader in employee benefits names new CEO

LOS ANGELES, CA (February 1, 2024) — The Los Angeles City Employees Association (LACEA) – one of California’s and the nation’s biggest voluntary employee benefits associations for public (government) employees – has named Robert Larios as President and CEO as of January 1. This transition marks the culmination of a decade-long succession plan initiated by John Hawkins, the former CEO of LACEA.

The LACEA, created in 1928, enjoys more than 50,000 fee-paying Members in the City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, Orange County, the state of California, and towns, cities, counties and other municipalities throughout California. The association is better known by its subsidiary name, the Employees Club of California.

Larios, a seasoned veteran with more than 25 years at the LACEA, previously served as the Chief Operating Officer for the Employees Club of California subsidiary for nearly six years. During his tenure, he oversaw an unprecedented expansion of the membership base and significantly improved the customer service experience. He holds a Master’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish literature and linguistics from the University of Southern California.

With Larios at the helm, the Employees Club remains committed to its mission of delivering exceptional service and unparalleled value to its members. The organization will continue to prioritize personal development, mentorship, fostering a culture of mutual respect and collaboration, and the expansion of its commitment to honoring public employees in California.

“To our respected Members throughout California, I extend my heartfelt appreciation for your enduring trust in us,” Larios said. “Our pursuit of excellence, guided by serving your needs and expectations, will not waver. Our pledge to provide exceptional service and deliver unparalleled value is stronger than ever.

“The Club founder, John Hawkins, transformed a dormant $3 million company into a bustling and innovative $35 million industry leader,” Larios continued. “He could have chosen to lead any other private or public firm but found production satisfaction in rolling up his sleeves and serving his constituents – Association Members, staff, boards and communities throughout California and the United States. We are profoundly indebted to his service and leadership. ”
