A+ Federal Credit Union helps Scouts earn key merit badge towards becoming an Eagle Scout

AUSTIN, TX (October 8, 2013) — A+ Federal Credit Union (A+FCU) celebrates its 8th Personal Management Merit Badge course to Boy Scouts through a partnership with the Capitol Area Council Boy Scouts of America®.

Since 2010, A+FCU has helped 195 local Scouts earn their Personal Management merit badge, which is a requirement for the Eagle Scout rank.  This fall, 45 new Scouts are enrolled in the course. To many Scouts this merit badge is considered one of the hardest merit badges to achieve.

The A+FCU course covers the ten requirements for the badge in seven classes over a 14-week time period. Scouts must complete a 13-week budget and learn about goals, smart shopping, credit, saving, investing, time management, project management and careers.

“Our Scouts receive a great program and learn valuable skills that will last for a lifetime,” said Jon Yates, Scout Executive/CEO for the Capitol Area Council. “Our Scouts, our parents and our leaders all have provided strong endorsements for this workshop. Our Scouts deserve our best, and A+FCU’s Personal Management workshop is just that.”

“A+FCU has a long history of providing financial education to our members and the communities we are in,” said Kerry A.S. Parker, A+FCU CEO. “We’re proud to provide this valuable service to the Scouts and partner with the Capitol Area Council Boy Scouts of America®.”

Scouts or parents interested in the course can email communityeducation@aplusfcu.org to be added to the waiting list or visit aplusfcu.org/bsa.

A+ Federal Credit Union has 17 Austin area locations, over $1 Billion in assets, and more than 108,000 members that include not only educators, students, and their families, but other members of the community as well.  To find out more, visit the website at aplusfcu.org.
