A smooch with a pot-bellied pig secures a $5,500 grant for Bensalem High School

FORT WASHINGTON, PA (January 29, 2020) — Bensalem High School business curriculum leader David Miller prides himself for puckering up nine times with a pig at TruMark Financial® Credit Union’s annual Kiss A Pig Financial Literacy Fundraiser. The school participated in the fundraiser held on Oct. 2, at the Abington Art Center in Jenkintown. Local schools, organizations, and credit union employees raise money for the privilege of kissing a pig. The proceeds provide grants to the schools’ business departments.

TruMark Financial awarded Bensalem High School a $5,500 grant for Miller’s smooch. “I have a straight running record and I would notwant to have anything interfere with that,” he chuckled. The school plans to use the grant to purchase updated resources for its accounting classes and business department.

The school embraced the concept of kissing a pig nine years ago and has never looked back. “We have been able to provide opportunities and enrich the business curricula with the help of TruMark Financial’s generosity. It has been a great partnership,” said Miller. Tara Carroll, business education teacher, spearheads the school’s fundraising efforts while Miller gets the honor of kissing Raines, a pot-bellied pig.

The fundraiser, one component of TruMark Financial’s Building Financial Futures initiative, heightens awareness for financial literacy and raises money for local schools in need of personal finance materials.

The following schools also participated in the Kiss-A-Pig Financial Literacy Fundraiser and will receive a $5,500 grant:

  • Abraham Lincoln High School
  • Archbishop Wood High School
  • Baldi Middle School
