GLENDORA, CA (June 5, 2020) — America’s Christian Credit Union (ACCU), a faith-based financial institution headquartered in Glendora, CA, is pleased to announce the promotion of Richard H. Mathews to Vice President/Chief Human Resources Officer effective May 2020. In this new and expanded role, he will continue to lead the credit union’s talent management, cultural transformation and employee development initiatives that align with ACCU’s vision and mission.

“I’m excited to mark and celebrate the 62nd anniversary of ACCU’s charter by announcing Richard’s promotion. Having served with distinction as our HR department head for the past 20 years, Richard will continue to provide leadership for the credit union’s greatest assets, its nearly 100 employees, as we continue to grow our credit union to serve more members across the nation in the mission of God. I look forward in having Richard join our Chief Officer Group and help me in various key organizational projects and objectives in the months ahead,” said Vicki VannBerstein, ACCU’s President/CEO.

Mathews, whose career spans 34 years in Human Resources and Organizational Development, has a B.A. in Mathematics from Pomona College and an MBA from Cal State Northridge. He is current in two professional certifications – Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and Senior Certified Processional from the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM-SCP). He is a former president of the Credit Union HRD Network, and a former board member with Neighborhood Homework House of Azusa.  Before hiring in to ACCU in 1999, Mathews had served in executive roles with Southland Credit Union and with Pacific Community Credit Union.

At ACCU, giving back to our communities is a part of who we are. Mathews is the embodiment of exemplary voluntary service, leading the credit union in initiatives that help our neighbors succeed and communities thrive. Mathews’ dedication and contributions are evidenced in his significant outreach efforts with Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, Shepherd’s Pantry, Dream Center of Los Angeles, Junior Achievement and Foster Youth Literacy Programs. He currently serves as Board Chair and Staff Pastor at his home church, Brea United Methodist Church.

“It has been my privilege to serve the members and employees of this mission-minded, God-honoring credit union for the past 21 years,” said Mathews. “I am honored at this recognition and look forward to expanding my role in advancing ACCU’s status as an employer of choice, and a recognized leader in Christian financial services.”
