Advance Financial FCU and its board of directors continue their mission to assist local charities

Credit union is front and center as they respond to community needs

Schererville, IN (November 30, 2021) |

While the continuing pandemic has impacted a broad range of consumers, the effects are magnified among the most vulnerable.  Supply chain disruptions, lower inventory and labor shortages coupled with significant price increases have food pantries experiencing unprecedented demand.  Also, these same factors are making Christmas gift purchases for children even more challenging.

While Advance Financial Federal Credit Union (AFFCU) is committed to the philosophy of “People Helping People” on a year-round basis, this belief has been heightened over the past two years due to the impact COVID-19 has had on the communities it serves. When the need exists, the credit union ramps up to the challenge...fulfilling on their tagline... “Always Ahead.”

During an average year in Northwest Indiana, nearly 100,000 individuals are food insecure, meaning they don’t have sufficient food for themselves and their families.  The demand has increased by over 60% in the past year alone.  And when food prices increase, food insecurity for those already experiencing it gets worse.  In addition, many children in this area don’t receive the kind of gifts that most children are accustom to receiving...or even worse, they don’t receive any gifts.

AFFCU members and its Board of Directors are upping their support of the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana and the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program this holiday season. This is in addition to the annual fundraisers conducted by the credit union for these two charitable organizations.

“We believe strongly in the missions of these two organizations and again this year our Board unanimously decided to make a financial contribution to both the them,” stated Janice A. Vamos, Chairperson of AFFCU.

In addition to member donations of 550 food items, AFFCU raised over $900 in total this year for the Food Bank of NWI which translates into nearly 3,000 meals! The credit union also helped to grant the wishes of 40 Angels in need of a Christmas gift in the Angel Tree program.
