Advancial CEO makes a splash at Dallas Real Men Wear Pink Campaign kickoff event

DALLAS, TX (September 13, 2018) — All eyes were on Advancial Federal Credit Union’s President and CEO Brent Sheffield at the American Cancer Society’s Real Men Wear Pink Campaign kickoff event on Thursday evening when he arrived donning a pink suit.

“He definitely knows how to make an impression!” said Sheffield’s wife, Kate. “When Brent is enthusiastic about something, he goes all-out. And as you can see, he’s enthusiastic about this!”

Sheffield and his wife have a uniquely positive connection to the fight against breast cancer. “My mother had a lump removed from her breast when I was in high school and her surgeon had a daughter that was in some of my classes” said Sheffield. “Years later, I ended up reconnecting with that surgeon’s daughter and I asked her – ‘did you know your dad operated on my mom?’ How many times has a guy used that as a pick up line?” His unusual line worked – a few months after that interaction, he and Kate were engaged. They’re happily married 14 years later and reside in Southlake with their son.

For the rest of the month of September and for all of October, Sheffield will join 26 other community leaders in wearing pink to raise money and awareness in the fight against breast cancer.

Advancial’s employees are supporting Sheffield’s efforts with voluntary donations that will act as votes to choose a costume that their CEO will wear in Klyde Warren Park on October 19. Sheffield hopes that the humorous costumes will both motivate his employees to participate and draw attention from park goers, whom he’ll ask for donations.

Advancial is committed to a culture of volunteerism and community improvement. To that end, employees are provided with 16 hours of paid volunteer time – eight for a company-sponsored activity and eight to support a charity of their choice. Sheffield has chosen the Real Men Wear Pink for his personal volunteer time.

As the campaign kicks off, Sheffield is confident that the group will meet or exceed their total fundraising goal of $50,000. “This is a passionate group of people. I know we’re all committed to doing everything we can to make this initiative a success so that the American Cancer Society can continue to do amazing work in Dallas and all over the country.”
