Affinity Plus CFO Brian Volkmann recognized as 2019 CFO of The Year by Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal

ST PAUL, MN (November 14, 2019) — Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal recently announced Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union’s CFO, Brian Volkmann, as a 2019 honoree for the 13th annual CFO of the Year Awards. The annual recognition showcases outstanding financial executives in the Twin Cities. Volkmann was honored at a special luncheon on November 7, 2019, at Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot. Volkmann was one of several winners, in which he won in the nonprofit (other) category.

“Brian is a special talent. In my 25 years in financial services, he is the hardest working and brightest leader I have been around,” said Dave Larson, President and CEO of Affinity Plus. “His finance acumen is obvious, but what really amazes me is his ability to see around corners with a vision on what is next. He also has such a deep care and commitment to our members, employees and communities that I believe is often rare from a CFO. I have learned so much from Brian and I look forward to working with him on a daily basis.”

As CFO at Affinity Plus for almost six years, Volkmann has teamed with other credit unions and partners to start CU Green, which offers loans to help increase the purchase and use of clean energy products, like solar panels. Volkmann also has been responsible for leading 28 branches and helped remake the company’s online and mobile app. Outside of work, he volunteers as co-chair of Financial Executives International Twin Cities Chapter and has taken part in the Special Olympics Polar Plunge fundraiser.

This awards program started back in 2007 to honor outstanding financial leaders at Twin Cities companies both large and small. Nominees are evaluated by a panel consisting of other financial executives, who scored them on contributions to the company and the community.
