Affinity Plus Foundation Accepts Nominations for its New Grant

One teacher or school, and one community group, will receive a $1,000 grant to use toward financial literacy education, materials, or supplies.

ST. PAUL, MN (May 1, 2013) – The Affinity Plus Foundation would like to invite all teachers, schools and community groups to nominate themselves or their peers for the Financial Literacy Cultivator Grant. Making its debut this year, the Cultivator Grant will be awarded to one teacher or school, and one community group. The two recipients of the grants will receive $1,000 to use for financial literacy education, materials, or supplies.

Committed to improving the lives of people in Minnesota through financial literacy education, the Foundation supports initiatives that make financial education accessible. These initiatives include seminars in classrooms and communities, grant opportunities for schools and community groups, and scholarship opportunities for students who are members of Affinity Plus. In 2012, the Foundation awarded $45,875 in grants to MN Best Prep and the National Theatre for Children, and five $5,000 academic scholarships.

“We are proud to provide this opportunity for more people in our state to benefit from financial education, whether it is in a classroom or community group setting,” states Dave Larson, Executive Director for the Affinity Plus Foundation. “We are so proud to play a role in changing peoples’ lives by helping them receive a financial education, and are excited to see how the Cultivator Grant will impact communities in our state.”

The Financial Literacy Cultivator Grant is open to all applicants who meet the submission requirements listed on the nomination form and provide answers to the following questions:

  • Why is financial education important?
  • Why is this teacher, school, or community group deserving of this grant? Please provide stories and examples.

Nominations for the grant can be completed and submitted online here: https://www.affinityplus.org/foundation/grant-nomination. Nomination forms can also be picked up at any branch location and returned to the branch, or mailed to Sandy Olson, Grant Program Administrator, at 175 W. Lafayette Frontage Road, St. Paul, MN 55107.
